Louder and Louder
by Lindsey Fontneau
“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17
This verse has grown to be something of a battlecry prayer for me. I love every single piece of this verse.
The Lord my God is with me. What an utterly amazing and transcendent thought, isn’t it? God, You are with me, but You’re also with him and her. You’re with that stranger in the grocery store, and at the same time, You’re with the tribes of Africa and the Eskimos of Siberia. God, You are not limited by time or space. You createdtime and space, after all. You’re with all of us. And Father, I can’t even tell You how comforted I am by that.
He’s the Mighty Warrior who saves. Mighty indeed. I have countless stories demonstrating Your glorious might. You are powerful, holy, and sovereign but not unapproachable. You don’t simply wait for Your creation to come to You; You sprint after us, like a kid running to the swings at recess. Your character amazes me.
He will take great delight in me. Really, God? Me? I don’t think I’m all that worthy of Your delight. I mess up, a lot. Sometimes I say unkind words or think cruel thoughts. I’m often selfish, ornery, insensitive, uncaring, and downright wretched. You delight in me? Wow. You must think I’m pretty special.
In His love He will no longer rebuke me. Even though I deserve condemnation and death, You choose to view me as clean and unblemished. How? God, teach me to forgive like You forgive. Teach me to love like You love.
But You will rejoice over me with singing. Sing, Lord! Sing louder and louder until my voice is completely covered by Yours and unrecognizable to the world. Thank you for giving us the gift of music. I love being in communion with my Creator through music, so keep singing, Lord. Louder and louder.
