The Baby Fork
by Krista Bier
I have a good friend who is a silversmith in Washington. I have always been in awe of the beautiful pieces of silver he restores for his clients, and the creative one-of-a-kind pieces he creates. It wasn’t until recently, however, that I saw something in his work that reminded me of what God does when we let Him into our lives. He restores, transforms, and reminds us of the beautiful creation we are in Him.
A woman brought a baby fork that had been given to her son 40 years ago. It was a treasured family keepsake, and one day she decided to use it to feed her grandson and accidently turned on the garbage disposal with the fork in it. As you can imagine, it was a mangled mess. Tim painstakingly worked on this little fork, and brought it back to its original beauty and luster. Actually, it looked even better than it did before!
This is what God does in our lives. When we give ourselves over to Him, He mends what is broken, crushed, and seemingly irreparable. He restores our souls and repairs what has been mangled by the lies of the enemy and our worldly sinful ways.
There is nothing that He can’t redeem and restore back to what He intended for our lives.
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10
