“O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like you, in heaven above or on earth beneath, keeping covenant and showing steadfast love to your servants who walk before you with all their heart.” 1 Kings 8:23

There are days when I resemble a person I saw on Facebook.

This lady picks up her keys to run to the store. Before she gets out the door she sees a pile of laundry that needs to be washed so she sets her keys down and takes the pile to the laundry. After she starts the washer, she leaves the room and spots a dish her son left on the counter so she goes over and loads the dishwasher. When she turns around she looks outside and realizes the windows need washed and she gathers rags and gets that done. When she takes the rags to the laundry room she finds the washer is done, so she moves the laundry to the dryer. This goes on for hours; she moves from job to job until it’s time for dinner and then she realizes she never made it to the store for groceries.

So many days I find myself in this mode when it comes to my time with God. If I don’t sit down first thing and spend time in prayer and in my Bible, I find that the day goes by without me ever stopping to check in with my Father. Sadly, when things get really crazy, this can happen several days in a row. Then I start to wonder why things feel a little off. Why am I crabbier than normal?

I am grateful for a God who is steadfast.

Steadfast means resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering. My God has a resolutely firm and unwavering love for me. He has not (and will not) remove that love. On days that I hit the ground running and skip my quiet time and go from thing to thing like a hummingbird moving from flower to flower, I’m grateful for a God who is steadfast.

I may (and often do) move my attention from God but he will never move his attention from me. He is always in the same spot – steadfast – unmoving – unwavering – waiting for me to realize that I need him day by day, minute by minute.

Thank you, God, that there is none like you who shows steadfast love to your servants who walk before you with all their heart.
