There is no doubt that we are living through one of the craziest adventures in history. Considering these uncertain times, what do you think is expected of us as believers?
If you visit someone on Lakeview Drive, you expect to see a view of the lake. If you see a sign that says “Scenic Overlook,” you expect to see some spectacular scenery when you pull off the highway to take a look. (OK, if you see a sign that says, “Old Dad Clark,” you probably do NOT expect to see Old Dad Clark.)
When you say you are a Christian, what do people expect to see? I believe they expect to see one who is obedient to God’s Word and one who exhibits the fruit of the Spirit:
The Lord’s peace and patience
A gentleness that reflects the Savior and not the world
Self-control that would not be possible without Him
That’s a pretty tall order! If we look around, there are plenty of reasons to grumble, fault-find, and be full of fear. And people are always watching. We must trust the Lord to do His work in and through us so that others will be drawn to Jesus simply by observing how we live.
“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
